Announcing Handicap Seminar

The USGA, in its continuing effort to educate golfers, is now requiring all clubs that issue handicaps under the USGA handicap system to be certified. The USGA is putting the onus for certification on regional golf associations. By 2005, the MSGA must make sure that all clubs using the GHIN system in Maine are operating under the rules of the handicap system and have been licensed to issue handicaps. For the first time this year, all clubs will be required to fill out a licensing agreement, a part of which is designating the person responsible at the club level for maintaining that club’s handicap system.

In an effort to help all clubs in this certification process, the MSGA is putting on a handicap seminar on April 18 from 4-9 PM at Val Halla Golf and Recreation Center in Cumberland. The MSGA is very pleased to announce that Kevin O’Connor of the USGA will be conducting the seminar.

Clubs that do not yet have a person certified in the handicap system are urged to take advantage of Kevin’s visit to Maine and send your handicap designee to this seminar. Cost is $15 per person, which includes a light meal and a handicap manual. Email us at mainegolf@usga.org with your name and the name of your club if you plan to attend. You may also call the office at 846-3800. Your check can be mailed to MSGA, 374 US Route One, Yarmouth ME 04096.
